NTCA ‘must be ready for more devolution’

North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) must be ready for any further devolution offered by the government as part of recovery from coronavirus, according to the chair of its overview and scrutiny committee (OSC).

Northumberland councillor Gregah Roughead, a Conservative, makes the comment in the annual report of the OSC being presented to the NTCA cabinet tomorrow. He writes:

‘Looking toward the future, the OSC will need to remain flexible with its Forward Plan while the pathway for regional recovery continues to emerge and become clearer. Additionally, the Combined Authority as a whole will need to be prepared to discuss governance implications, opportunities and risks should Her Majesty’s Government decide to devolve further powers and budgets to NTCA as part of regional recovery plans’.
